Bradenstoke 132/33KV Substation
Bradenstoke 132/33KV Substation
Groom Design Services were employed by the ICP to provide the secondary protection design, interface design and full site installation of the 132/33kV substation to allow a 50MW PV farm to generate onto the DNO’s system.
This project was the first loop in loop out ICP connection into an existing overhead line that the DNO had undertaken.
Groom Design Services provided all the secondary protection and interface design inclusive of the following;
Staged Main connection and protection diagrams
Tripping logics
General Arrangements
Circuit Diagrams
Wiring Diagrams
Multicore cable schedules,
Cable block diagrams
Connection diagrams for all primary and secondary plant.
Groom Design Services managed the interface with the DNO protection engineers and their external approval protection engineers until the protection schemes were signed off ready for the construction phase.
An integral part of the project was the tight timescales in which the project was to be completed to meet an already agreed connection date.
To speed up the control room construction and to eliminate weather implications on a traditional civil build, we put forward a containerised substation solution where the build could be managed at a partner company we use for the fabrication of substation buildings, control rooms and switch houses removing any onsite delays due to weather and not being able to undertake civil works.
The solution comprised of 3 individual units that were built separately and then bolted together on site so the need for escort vehicles and movement restrictions were design out of the project.
As part of the installation we provided all structures, busbars, clamps, post insulators, protection and control panels, CVT marshalling kiosks, Bay marshalling kiosks and LVAC distribution boards.
Alongside the civil team who carried out the excavations, Groom Design services installed all below ground earthing, earth inspection points, earth mats around the disconnectors and earth switches, fence earths and high frequency earths.
Groom Design Services provided all site staff with the relevant experience and qualifications to carry out and complete the following works;
Installation of structures and connection to the earth grid,
Installation of Busbars and clamps including the ductor testing of all joints to confirm continuity.
Installation, glanding and termination of all secondary multicore and multipair cables.
Installation of all CVT’s, Surge arrestors, Post insulators, marshalling kiosks, protection panels, batteries, LVAC boards, and the containerised substations
As part of the contract we provided all as built drawing records back to the DNO and ICP capturing any on site modifications undertaken.
Groom Design Services undertook the above work inline with the NERS policies and procedures that the ICP market adhere to and successfully delivered the project on time and within budget.
